Gibson Les Paul Special (circa 1958) Electric Guitar
This vintage Gibson Les Paul Special is a classic example of a great “player’s guitar”. The guitar was not purchased and kept under a bed for decades, it was used by a gigging musician. Many years of being played have left their mark but it is clear the guitar was properly cared for. The tuners, P-90 pickups and all electronic components appear to be the original parts. There is some nice finish checking in the lacquer and the “TV Yellow” finish has a nice mellow slightly darker cast to it from exposure over the years. This guitar has lots of character but is not structurally or electronically compromised. It sounds absolutely great and plays just as wonderful as it sounds.
A minor modification appears to have been made at some point which involves the tailpiece/bridge that has been contoured some on the top, slight grooves cut to guide the strings and three holes through the bar. It also appears there was some type of tailpiece judging from the four screw holes around the rear strap button. The strap buttons were replaced too but the originals are present. Some of the finish is worn down to wood in some parts. Additionally, there are some tiny white dots where it looks like some painting was done with the guitar in the vicinity. These spots are visible in some of the shots but this isn’t really noticeable unless you’re really close or looking for it.
