ITEM SPECIFICS:
The Franklin Mint had many contracts with governments to produce and sell circulation, proof, and commemorative coinage for various nations. The announcement that the Atocha shipwreck was discovered in 1985, recovered undersea treasures became accordingly popular with the general public. The Franklin Mint hence capitalized on this growing interest around shipwreck items by producing a set for The British Virgin Islands; the Treasure Coins of the Caribbean Set contained a total of 25 coins, each weighing 19.09 grams of sterling (.925-fine) silver. This meant that each coin weighs 0.5677 ounces with the total set weighing 14.192 ounces.
The concept of the set was to feature items that would be found in Caribbean shipwrecks. The set included the following coin designs: Crossed Cannons, Porcelain Cup, Sextant, Emerald Ring, Gold Doubloon, Anchor, Brass Nocturnal, Sword Guillon, Gold Bar, Gold Escudo, Ivory Sundial, Gold Monstrance, Teapot, Brass Religious Medallion, Astrolabe, Bells, Porcelain Bottle, Dutch Cannons, Spanish Cob Coin, Ship Lantern, Brass Dividers, Gold Cross, Perfume Bottle, Pocket Watch, and Gold Bracelet. Some of the coins were sold individually, but most were issued in sets.
This 1985 Silver World Coin is perfect for any collection!
